Job description

 The Purpose

 To find new committed members for our charities by working on a door to door basis.

 Transport

 Although most of the actual work is done on foot, you must have your own transport (car or bicycle). Why? See FAQs

 The Hours

  •  Ideally, 4-5 weekday evenings per week 5.30pm – 8.30pm. approx 
  • In addition, work can also be done for 3 hours on a Saturday approx. 4pm - 7pm.(Saturday working is optional)

  • There is a degree of flexibility available in your working hours, but to be successful, you have to commit to at least 3 evenings a week

 The Place Of Work

  • Middle/high income (A, B, and C1) urban, suburban and semi-rural residential areas.

  • At first, you usually work in your own area, and extend outwards - no more than 30 minutes travelling time from your home.

 Our Method Part 1: 

  • Between 5.30pm and 7pm, you:

  • Walk around, visiting 50 – 100 houses in the selected area, speaking very briefly to people on their doorsteps.

  • Ask a simple question to identify those with an interest in reading a reusable booklet about wildlife/woodland conservation.

  • make an informal arrangement to collect the booklet another time.

  • make no attempt to engage people in a conversation or answer questions at this stage.

 Our Method Part 2:

After 7pm,you:

  • return to collect booklets left the previous evenings

  • find out whether people are interested in becoming members of the charity

  • fill in a form for those who wish to join

  • In all cases, you ensure that your demeanour is friendly and informal.

 Polite and Friendly

 You’ll find that people will be polite and friendly, and some will even thank you for calling on them in such a pleasant manner.

 This side of the job is rewarding in itself, even if people have decided not to support the charity!
